TLC’s Doctor Tapped for Innovative Teachers Group

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has chosen 24 outstanding educators for the 2026-27 cohort of the Kentucky Innovative Teacher Fellowship, including Kate Doctor of The Learning Center (TLC) in Fayette County Public Schools. 

“I believe some of the best ideas in education come from educators learning alongside one another,” Doctor said. “I'm excited to collaborate with innovative teachers from across Kentucky, refine my own practice, and explore new ways to create meaningful, student-centered learning experiences. I also look forward to bringing those ideas back to The Learning Center and sharing what I learn with my colleagues and students.”

Doctor, who chairs the school’s English Department, teaches English Language Arts for freshmen and juniors. This is her fourth year at TLC and sixth in FCPS. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown College and a Master of Arts in Teaching (Secondary English) through the University of the Cumberlands. 

“My favorite part of my job is watching students discover that they are capable of more than they thought,” she said. “I love creating engaging, authentic learning experiences that help students find their voice, build confidence, and see learning as something meaningful rather than something they simply have to do.”
