Fayette County Public Schools has selected Joshua Wilson of The Learning Center (TLC) as the Kids’ Champion for March 2026. Superintendent Demetrus Liggins surprised him with the award at school early this week, and the school board will salute him at their March 26 action meeting.

Each month during the school year, our district recognizes an outstanding member of Team FCPS who makes a real difference in students’ lives. A Kids’ Champion displays exceptional dedication to students and embodies the key characteristics of innovation, advocacy, empathy, knowledge, and a positive attitude.

Excerpts from the colleague who nominated Wilson, a guidance counselor and social worker:

“Mr. Wilson is the heart and soul of The Learning Center. He has been with us since 2010 and has continuously improved the program every year since. He seeks student input on most decisions that directly impact them and lets the students handle problem-solving, event planning, and fundraising (with guidance). He continuously looks for feedback and makes sure that a variety of diverse opinions are heard and implemented throughout the school.

“He meets with students for a wide range of reasons and makes sure to give the same amount of dedication and concern to every individual. He even goes above and beyond to make sure that our families are engaged and understand our school's resources and opportunities.

“Mr. Wilson is the embodiment of fun. He lights up the room with his goofy mannerisms and funny jokes. He's not afraid to embarrass himself or to go out of his way to make sure everyone has a smile on their face. He makes students feel like they belong, and he allows the staff to be themselves around him. His positive attitude even makes the toughest days a little brighter.”

If you know a Kids’ Champion who advocates for students and fosters a positive environment where all can thrive, you can recommend them for this districtwide recognition!
