About Our Program
Our Purpose:
The Learning Center (TLC) provides a nurturing environment for at-risk students through providing an alternative approach to their education. Recently awarded ‘Alternative School of Distinction’ by the Kentucky Department of Education, TLC empowers students to challenge systematic norms and begin to define creative ways of teaching/learning, see broader connections and relevance to standards-based responsibilities, design innovative products, and become self-directed throughout the entire learning process. Through a staff developed system, Life Support, and collaborations with outside agencies/services, TLC produces well-rounded, life-ready learners. Data-based decision making and team planning drive individualized programming for students, which includes academics and community projects full of genuine responsibility for others in need. Staff respond in unique ways by using their individual skillsets to support students with mental health challenges.
Summary: TLC serves FCPS students in grades 8-12 in a small setting, using career-oriented exploration and mentoring to prepare students for life.
